Well, Wayne is officially an old man! JK He turned the big 3-0- earlier this month and I surprised him by scheduling his b-day off.(With the help of his scheduler)
We started off the day by bringing him breakfast in bed. Then we went to the park and had a picnic. After that my parents and his parents met us at Tucanos for some delicious dinner. After that we headed to our house for dessert and stories about Wayne. I thought it would be fun to have everyone tell their favorite memories and stories about Wayne. It was so much fun. Wayne's oldest brother Robert was especially awesome. He had some great stories to tell, and some really sweet things to say about his lil bro.
It made him cry,

which made Wayne cry,
which then made their dad really cry!

It was so funny...to me anyway. Those Mortensen boys (especially Wayne and his dad) really wear their hearts on their sleeves.
Something you may not know about Wayne is that he plays the trumpet! Well, he did until it got stolen in Jr. High. I thought it would be fun to get him a cheap trumpet(those things are like $1200 brand new!)that he could play around on. He was totally surprised and was able to pick it right up again. it's been fun to hear him play.

Wayne thought it was a good idea to seranade the kids while they took a bath. Can you imagine how loud it was? This picture cracks me up!

As part of his birthday I also secretly planned a trip to Sunvalley for the 2 of us which he found out about because he was snooping around his schedule. I mean come on, who checks their schedule 2 weeks in advance? Anyway, the weekend after his birthday we had a great weekend get-a-way, which i will post on later.
Here are a few hilarious things his brothers had to say about him.
Robert-Oldest brother
-My favorite soccer moment watching Wayne was when a guy slide-tackled him; the guy was still on the ground and just to be a jerk he trapped Wayne's legs with his legs so he couldn't keep running down the field. After a few seconds Wayne just decked him in the face and kept on playing
-I've always been impressed that Wayne seems to be a "natural" at everything he does
-(About Waynes speech impediment he had as a kid) We used to tell people that he was adopted from Austria and people actually believed us!
-Wayne was the most fun to fight with when we were boys. No matter how much I thumped him, he had an indomitable spirit and always came back for more. He would sometimes run to his room to recuperate a bit and then come charging back out full of steam ready for the next round
Carl-second oldest brother
-We could always tell when he was lying because he'd close one eye and nod his head yes, as if he wasn't telling the truth
-When he was 7 we would have (non-violent) fights with some older bullies who lives in the neighborhood. Robert and I would tell Wayne all the swear words we knew for him to yell at them. It was okay for him to swear because he hadn't been baptized yet.
-Wayne is the only person I've ever punched in the face, and the only person to ever punch me in the face.
-Wayne used to have the biggest crush on Jem. From Jem and the holograms.
Randy-little brother
One day at Church we learned about having faith and saying prayers to get things. When we got home we told Wayne that if he prayed hard enough and had enough faith he could fly. So he said a prayer and jumped off the top of his bunk bed. He did this repeatedly, every time kneeling down to say a prayer in between. He was so convinced that it would work.

happy birthday wayne!
Happy Birthday Wayne! Those were some awesome stories!
Too bad Big Morty wasn't there, he was the crier when they were little and they made fun of him. Now he is "dead inside" and he would have been making fun of all the crying. Sorry we couldn't be there, but we are so excited to move up that way. Happy Birthday Wayne!
Yep, I'm a boob when I am touched. I inherited it from my dad. Sorry you inherited it as well Wayne. My mouth was open not from crying but from laughing about what was being said and tearing up also about what was being said. Oh well, I have to endure the jibbing that I take because of it. Love you guys!
Dad
Love it! I love that Wayne kept praying and trying to fly! Happy Birthday Waynebow!
Hilarious! Best post EVER! All the 30th birthdays are making me break out in hives by the way.
way funny....
I seriously LOVE that bathroom picture too! HILARIOUS!
Sounds like such a fun birthday!! Those are some funny stories. What a great wife you are! Oh, and congrats on the upcoming baby BOY!! Whoo-hoo!!
OK, I didn't read the whole post because once I saw the pic of Wayne playing the trumpet while the kids took a bath I couldn't stop laughing. That would've been complete chaos at our house.
I'm glad you like the baby wrap. I'm still loving it except that Lando is so big I can't wear it too much before it stretches out a ton. After I throw it in the wash it's as good as new again.
Happy 30th Wayne!
I LOVED THE MEMORIES! I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD! HOW CUTE IS THAT?
Yer such an adorable wifey. I wish I had a wife like you! Oh wait. That's weird.
A girl can dream!
